The Indianapolis Star is reporting that Marquis Daniels will likely end up signing with the Celtics on a two-year contract for the biannual exception. The Celts and Pacers have been trying to work out a sign-and-trade, but to no avail.
I see little fantasy impact in a Marquis Daniels heading to Boston. Yes, it’s true, Daniels did have his best season in 2008-09: 31.5 MPG, 13.6 PTS, 2.1 AST, 4.6 REB, 1.1 STL, 72.1 FT%, 45.1 FG%, 0.3 3PT. However, you have to remember that for while Daniels was just one of a handful of healthy Pacers, making it possible for him to get more touches, more FGAs, and more time for us to comment on his luxurious locks.
Daniels to the Celtics makes sense from a basketball standpoint, but his fantasy impact really depends on one thing: a Ray Allen injury.
There are too many “Johnson’s” in this “soup,” if you will. Rasheed Wallace, Paul Pierece, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen….. touches, touches, touches.
Daniels is not draftable at this point, but I’m sure there will be a week or two this season when owners flock to the waivers to get their hands on Daniels. It’s bound to happen!
